Internship Day One- “You have a great smile”

**Note: I thought it would be cool to title my internship posts with a quote of something anyone said while I was at my internship taken out of context.**

So today was the first real day of my internship with PepsiCo. I went there right after my feature writing class ended at 10am. My internship is on the offices in the back of our main dining hall, offices I didn’t know existed until I got the internship. I went back and my supervisor, Kasey was stuck on a lengthy phone call. Once Kasey was able to get off the phone we sat down and talked about what the expectations of me are for this semester. She explained to me more about what her job is, what my hours will be like, and how busy I will really be this semester– I could not be more excited!!! She asked at the end of all of this if I had any questions, which I didn’t because she explained everything very clearly and I have already taken the opportunity to grill the previous intern– but instead of not asking a question at all I just asked her if there was a dress code, I’ll basically be fine as long as I don’t show up in sweats. After that she sent me over to res-life to pick up some packages that were waiting there for me. The packages turned out to be some awesome prizes that will be used for give-away promotions on campus. After that, Kasey let me go at around 11:15 for the day asking me to come up with some ideas for things I would like to do with them this semester (I already have some solid ideas) that I will share with her on friday! Kasey seems like she is going to be an amazing supervisor! She is really nice, has a lot of ideas and a calming presence. Overall, it was a laid back first day in a very very busy environment.

Semester Blogging Experience

So as I mentioned when I started this blog, it was created for my Multimedia class. This is not the first blog that I have had to keep as a mass comm student. I find that the farther along I go in the mass comm program here at Bloomsburg, the more I am blogging. Out of all of the blogs I have had to keep, this one is probably my favorite.

Clearly, this blog was meant to bleed anything ‘Twitter.’ Along with those posts, I was required to post on other topics that are relevant to the mass comm world which were outlined in the requirements in the blogging rubric. I think it is pretty obvious that I was more into my posts that had to do with Twitter.

I feel like this blog has definitely had more traffic than my other blogs. I think this is due to the tools that WordPress makes available for the blogger. I think the tags for posts played a big role in attracting viewers to my posts. I also like that I could have my Twitter feed linked to my blog. Promotion-wise… there have been times where I have used this blog to promote events hosted by the organizations that I am a part of and, if I remember correctly, I also managed to slip in a link to one of the articles that I wrote for BUnow.

Overall, I would have to say that this has been my favorite blogging experience by far. It has definitely done a better job with turning me on to blogging and has provided the desire for me to blog more than I have in the past.

This week on Twitter…

Welcome back from spring break! Personally all I did was go to the doctor and dentist and the gym. Woot. I did just book a flight to California to visit my friend from high school and celebrate their 21st in June! 66 days baby! Anyway, while I was on break, I have to admit that I did take a break from my social networks too for the most part. So this week I have to play catch up and will try to mention some things that have been on my Twitter feed for the past two weeks!

First topic! This is another one of my local topics but I feel like I should mention it since everyone in Bloomsburg is talking about it. So, over spring break, a Bloomsburg senior, Katie Partridge, was charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, and other charges. Basically, she snatched a kid off of his bike and tried to run away with him; luckily the boy’s mother caught up with her and the police were contacted. People are also saying that Katie spit on a cop, and turned a used needle on a nurse in the hospital she was taken to. This is all what I have been reading from people who posted about it on Twitter (and from my friends and classmates on campus). I just have to say, this girl went to school here to teaching, and there is no way in hell she is getting a teaching job anymore. What were you thinking, Katie!?

In other news, March Madness has been in effect! I’m not going to lie, I don’t participate because I honestly don’t really care. I know that the mass communications organization BUNow (of Bloomsburg, of course) always hosts a competition with the brackets where the winner gets some money. I think that the reason I can’t get in to it, or following sports that I can’t watch in person in general is because I have a terrible memory when it comes to names and statistics (both of which are essential to being a true fan of a team).

In the sleazy news, Lindsay Lohan apparently totaled her car… two steps forward and four steps back situation?– I’m not entirely sure, I can’t say that I followed her meltdown. I did follow Amanda Bynes’ meltdown that took place in 2013. I have to say that she seems to have bounced back to normal, whatever that is anymore… good for you, Amanda! Finally, the MTV Movie awards are coming up! Follow this link to vote for your favorites in each category! http://www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/2014/movie-of-the-year/

This Week on Twitter…

Fun fact– Did you know today would have been Bob Marley’s 69th birthday? Happy birthday Bob! You never know what will be trending on Twitter.

Anyway, this week has been a pretty busy week in the social media world. I could not even keep up with my Twitter feed during the Super Bowl this past Sunday. The direction I want to go with this is addressing the numerous tweets I came across that were talking about the ‘Super Bowl being rigged’ rumors. While I am sure that some Broncos fans are convinced that this is true, I find it HIGHLY unlikely. Lets check our sources people– I just Google searched ‘super bowl rigged’ and did not find a story from one truly reputable news source. That being said, let me know when ESPN or Huffington Post is making those accusations and myself along with many others (I’m sure) will take it more seriously.

Moving on… many of the celebrity news sources I follow have been buzzing this week about 2 celebs and the fact that they were recently/are in rehab. Of course I am talking about Selena Gomez and Ke$ha (comment below if I am missing out on more). While these tweets are connected to articles with similar topics, they are two completely different stories. Selena Gomez reportedly spent two weeks in an Arizona rehab, but she was not in for drug and alcohol abuse. From what I have read, the reason for her stay has not been released… we’ll just assume that she needed to take a two week break for now. On the other hand Ke$ha, who has recently been in rehab for an eating disorder, is said to be returning for more healing. I personally wish the best for her, I can imagine it must easy to fall down to the pressures of being in the public eye, especially when it comes to body image.

My last topic for this week is something that has been plaguing my fellow Northeaster’s (I feel like that doesn’t look right… folks who also live in the Northeast) which is the weather! I know Bloomsburg has been pounded with snow and overall bad weather this past week. The university even closed on Wednesday, which since I have been attending school here, has not happened for snow. Clearly, this topic has been prominent specifically on my twitter and the accounts of fellow huskies (Bloomsburg University students… not the dog). I almost felt like I was back in high school with how many people we posting about the impending snow day on Tuesday night. While I am still wondering how long it will take all of the snow we got here to melt, I have heard from friends, family, and the news about how much worse it was in other areas that were hit with far more snow, ice, and power outages. Apparently there is more bad weather to come, so if you are from one of the areas expecting this weather… stay safe and good luck!
